Entry #2: Procrastination

Procrastination is a subject that most people know very well. Students are often very big offenders. Even now, I am writing a blog entry that is due in less than an hour. Why do we do it? Because we are idiots? Because we don't have time? Because we hate sleep? None of those are likely. Technically, sometimes there just isn't time to do things. But if most people who are procrastinating really took a look at the amount of free time they have and could have used to do whatever it is they're avoiding, it's likely that they would have had time somewhere in there to do whatever it is they don't want to do. The bottom line is that procrastination is a trained skill that people develop throughout their lifetimes that becomes a primarily psychological problem. It effects the way people live their daily lives, or don't. It's important for people to learn what caused the problem and here are some places to possibly help with that:

Procrastination: Ten Things to Know is an interesting interview of two of the leading experts on procrastination.
Why Wait? The Science Behind Procrastination has a lot of words but provides some background info about why we do what we do.

Once we understand more about the problem, we can at least try to fix it. There are a ton of suggestions on this crazy answer machine called google that could help with procrastination.

I'll leave those here for you. I'll read them eventually.

  1. Sam--Your blog is coming along pretty well so far. Your voice is comfortable, and you have some good ideas for discussion. Keep working on development and analysis, as well as set-up and sign-off to create more flow and engagement.
